{My} Dear Mother

Mother's Day always throws me for a loop. How can you really express how much you love and appreciate your mum in only one day? For me, preparing for this holiday involves a lot of blank stares at pretty stationery, biting my lip over what to get her, and trying to decide exactly what would make this day more special for her than any other day.

I never really succeed. My futile attempts never truly resolve themselves into a day that would make memories, which is all we really want, right? Making it a day she will never forget and smile every time she recalls it. That would be the perfect Mother's Day.

But alas... such a day has so far only existed in my imagination, so far-removed from reality...

However, I still make an attempt to at least give her a smidgeon of the love she has bestowed upon me on her day, often in the form of something she can put somewhere so even if the day is not memorable enough to stick in her memory, it can stick to her wall.

This is {though my version is home-cooked and not nearly as professional-looking}my gift for this year:

The family is also attempting to make her crepes, which hopefully will turn out wonderfully. And then we will be taking her to lunch {or supper} at Manderes, a fabulously delicious restaurant in town. No cooking for her tomorrow! {Unless, of course, she wants to. It is her day.}

I hope that all of your mothers and all the other special women in your lives have a wonderful, memory-making Mother's Day tomorrow. Happy Mother's Day!

A Pretty Little Notebook and a Lovely Cream

Cheers, beautiful readers! The weekend has finally arrived, and in its wake it brings a wonderful piece of sunshine and warmth and the scent of Spring. And, as always, Spring has that brilliant little motivator cleverly named--- Spring Cleaning. Thus, as old and by-forgotten things find new homes through charities and garage sales, and my room gets a well-deserved thorough scrubbing, I have found a few new things to brighten the days as Summer creeps upon us.

The first of those new things is a brilliant little notebook to jot down whatever comes to mind in, that was a fabulous Easter gift from my mum. Thank you!

This beauty is from the lovely works of Ms .
Lotta Jansdotter. I love her textiles!

The second new found love of mine is a precious face wash that is --surprise!-- really only a cream that only needs to be blotted off. My skin is notoriously not fond of sodium laureth sulfate, which is an ingredient found in many products because it is used to make the product lather and bubble. So I went on the search for a better wash for my skin. And instead I found a cream that cleans my face just as well. And dare I say... even better than traditional face cleansers!

Take a look at this lovely Pure Cream. It is really gentle,
I use it at least every other day, if not more often!

Now, off to go finish off my {probably flawed}translation of a Spanish song and try my hand at Chemistry so I can go outside and enjoy that sunny warmth of Spring. Have a great day!

To a New Year: Welcoming 2013

Everyone has some "New Year" resolutions. Even me, I admit it. Some are wholehearted... good even. Others... not so much. So here are those that I felt were best to commit too. Some are a bit "cheesy", one might say, so do bear with me. And, please, keep in mind, I am young and still haven't had all the wisdom of the world nor even experience in most matters, so my resolutions may seem... unrealistic. So be it. :)

1. Try one new thing (and hopefully fail at it) every week.*

2. Do my very best to stay organized, especially with a puppy who enjoys to rip up much needed papers.

3. Hug my friends and family more, and make sure they know what they mean to me.

4. Do the small things that matter, and be humble in doing them.

5. Remember to look back on each day and revel in the beauty around me. (God's creations truly are all beautiful, sometimes they just need a closer (or more general) look.)

*You may think that hoping to "fail" is not the best resolution. Let me explain myself. For me, success only is rewarding if the task was truly a challenge. Easy things, although pleasurable, don't resonate with me in quite the same way. I rather fail the first time and have to come at it from a different angle and try again. Call me crazy. :P

Oh, and for the first step in reveling in the beauty of the day...

Wishing you all the best of luck and fortune in the coming year of 2013! Happy New Year!
